Common name: Horny Goat Weed
History:
The Chinese name for Epimidium means “sexual plant for goats”, which originated from a told-story. Once there was a shepherd who wondered why his goats were so sexually active. He started watching what they were eating and noticed that they consumed a great deal of one plant in particular, which he later named “sexual plant for goats”. It is indeed a bit magical that the flower of this natural sexual aid does indeed look like a horny goat.
Historical or traditional use:
The Chinese consider Epimedium a premier libido-lifter for men and women, and top aid to erectile function in men. The plant has long been employed to restore sexual fire, boost erectile function, allay fatigue and even alleviate menopausal discomfort.
The Chinese Academy of Sciences recommends the regular use of Epimedium to slow the aging process, as it improves the overall quality of life as well.
Active constituents:
Icarin, A potent alkaloid that is derived from Epimedium. This potent alkaloid directly stimulates the flow of blood through erectile tissue. In order for a man to have an erection sufficient to engage in sexual intercourse, the amount of blood in the penis must increase by a factor of 10 (from its non-erect or flaccid state).
By stimulating the production of androgen (sexual) hormones, Epimedium stimulates sexual activity in both men and women, increases sperm production, stimulates the sensory nerves, and increases sexual desire. It's aphrodisiac effects has been verified in both animal and human research.
No negative effect on estrogen production has been found. It has traditionally been used for men suffering from impotence and low sperm count. It has also been prescribed for women suffering decreased sexual motivation.
There is also strong evidence, some of it referenced, that Epimedium is helpful for heart, liver and osteopathic problems.

Recommended Dosage: Take 1500~2500mg each day with water at mealtime.
