Rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea)
Common name: Golden root, Roseroot
Description:
There are some 50 species of rhodiola, but it is the fragrant root of the species Rhodiola rosea that is used medicinally. And it is also known as "Arctic root" or "Golden root" and more recently as “Crenulin”. Rhodiola is most often found in products intended to boost energy and enhance endurance. As such, it is often used as an ingredient in dietary supplements marketed to athletes and individuals concerned with weight loss or energy enhancement.

Safety:
Rhodiola extract is thought to be quite safe. There are no known contraindications or interactions with other drugs/herbs. Avoid if pregnant or breastfeeding.
Possible side effects:
Bone pain, breast tenderness, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, dry throat, gastric bleeding, headaches, increased bleeding time, light-headedness, low blood pressure, nausea, nosebleeds, rash.
Possible interactions:
Adenosine, amphetamines, antibiotics, drugs that increase the risk of bleeding, blood pressure drugs, antiviral drugs, aspirin/aspirin-containing drugs, diabetic drugs (like insulin), drugs that effect the immune system, drugs for cholesterol, protease inhibitors, and other herbs and supplements with similar effects.
Dosing:
Adults (18 years and older):
typically in the range of 100-300mg/day of an extract standardized to Rosavins (3%).
