Description:
Ginkgo biloba has been used medicinally for thousands of years. Today, it is one of the top selling herbs in the United States. Ginkgo is used for the treatment of numerous conditions, many of which are under scientific investigation.

Safety
:
Avoid if allergic or hypersensitive to members of the Ginkgoaceae family. If allergic mango rind, sumac, poison ivy or oak or cashews, then allergy to ginkgo is possible. Avoid with blood-thinners (like aspirin) due to an increased risk of bleeding. Ginkgo should be stopped two weeks before surgical procedures. Ginkgo seeds are dangerous and should be avoided. Skin irritation and itching may also occur due to ginkgo allergies. Do not use ginkgo in supplemental doses if pregnant or breastfeeding.
 
Possible side effects:
Bleeding, change in blood pressure and blood sugar, convulsions, gastrointestinal upset, headache, loss of muscle tone, muscle weakness, nausea, reduced fertility, restlessness, seizure, vomiting.
 
Possible interactions:

Antidepressants, drugs that increase risk of bleeding like aspirin or warfarin, blood pressure drugs, drugs that alter blood sugar levels, seizure drugs, aged foods (wine and cheese), St. John's wort, garlic, bitter melon, herbs or supplements with similar effects.

 
Dosing:
80-240mg divided into two or three doses has been taken by mouth daily.
